Qiyahmah Estridge Gay was born 01/04/23 after complications in hospital (i.e His mum having to wait three days after her waters had broken to be given a c section in North Middlesex hospital. Qiyahmah was finally born from c section and as he was nearly three months premature had to be placed in an incubator, he had developed e coli and sepsis as a result of being in his blessed mothers womb without waters for three days . He had also, i was informed developed a leak in the left ventricle of his brain which meant fluid was leaking from his brain and it made his head swell from the pressure, as an emergency the hospital ( Homerton as we were moved to the neonatal intensive care unit) sent him to GOSH ( Great Ormond street ) where he had surgery on his left ventricle the swelling subsided and Qiyahmah made slow but steady development in Homerton hospital until he was discharged to North Middlesex Hospital, I believe he was four months of glorious age at this time. While this had been happening local authorities had been constructing a care order for Qiyahmah with the intention of taking him into care as it felt that he would not be safe with mother because of her history and as i had not the means and was a “unknown” as described by an assessor. a parental assessment followed whereby I adhered to every stipulation but I was unsuccessful in the parental assessment and eventually in court and a care order was unfairly placed for Qiyahmah to be put permanently in foster care until adoptive family could be found. Even though in court the national adoption agency recommended that it could possibly that them two years or longer to
even have some body that is qualified enough to take Qiyahmah permanently) he was placed with a foster carer. Initially Qiyahmahs development was on the up, he was eating food at contact from both mum and dad and contact was joint for two hours every two weeks he was drinking milk, mumbling words making sounds and replicating sounds. After the courts decision contact was reduced to once per month and the proceedings had taken its effect on mum and
dads solidarity to have a united front in the way of nourishing their sons development with love and positivity. After a concern about me giving Qiyahmah seamoss was raised we were told we were not allowed to feed Qiyahmah and a stringent eye was kept by contact workers on us. Qiyahmahs foster carer is not of the same culture as him and there were a few hygiene issues
that mother and I had mentioned around this time. My son developed a bacterial infection weeks after this incident and was admitted to North Middlesex Hospital again . he was discharged and had to return two weeks later as the infection had not ceased and they had discovered that the brave enormous soul called Qi, BABY, key, Strong boy by his mum and dad had to have another ventricle brain operation at GOSH which he has made an absolutely miraculous recovery from. Unfortunately through this neglect and trauma Qiyahmah developed oral aversion which means he will not drink a bottle or eat any food orally. Because of complications at birth Qiyahmah has developmental delay and is slowly mastering the use of his legs. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at around six months but my understanding was with a baby so young 2 years is the general age for any professional to
make a definitive decision. I have been told that Qi is crawling and trying to stand up but within the 1 hour a month that I see him all I am able to do is hug him as he sobs or falls to sleep he has become unhappy, sad and he whines. even more as he realizes that I am there with him comforting him he has tears in his eyes and breaks down crying sometimes. There is a real misjustice happening here!
it seems any attempt to highlight these issues to authorities have been in vain. so far I have appealed the High Courts decision unsuccessfully, written complaints to Enfield council management, only to be told that because of my behavior and being “aggressive” they could not uphold my request to reassess the foster arrangement and the cultural differences/ignorance that mum, numerous ethnic minority workers
( who will not come forward in order to save their jobs) and myself had highlighted. Please kindly assist me if possible to get my concerns at least seriously considered and possibly have Qiyahmah moved to a culturally matched foster carer.
one that wasn’t trained for the inevitability of the use of a stomach peg and is not pessimistically positioned for Qiyahmah’s under development but someone that will give him the affection that he requires after such a challenging arrival into the world !
Kind regards.
